God found us

I recent came across the film Amazing Grace which was set in the late 1700s. The film tells of William Wilberforce, a politician who was driven by his faith in God to dedicate his time and resources to end the slave trade in England. Part of the film shows, Wilberforce’s butler finding him praying. The butler curious asks, “You found God, Sir?” The stunned Wilberforce responds, “I think God found me.”Snip20160731_2

The Bible in prose depicts humanity as wayward and wandering sheep. In the book of Isaiah it says, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way”. It is this wayward condition which is so deeply rooted in us that the apostle Paul in Romans who said: “There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside”. This is why the Lord came. We would never seek God, so the Lord came seeking us. God declared the mission with divine words, God has come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Wilberforce was exactly right, the Lord came to find us, for we could never have found God if left to ourselves. It is a clear expression of the Creator’s love for lost creation that the Lord pursues us and desires to make us whole with God.

The wonderful hymn says, Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

Truly, discovering God will not let us forever run astray, but seeks us to be whole to the Lord is special indeed. When have you felt God pulling at your heart, mind and soul to walk in the light? Please leave a comment, your share will certainly touch another. I will even write you back.

See you next Sunday.
