A Special Gift

I truly enjoy the Christmas season when it comes every year. Spending time with family. Also sharing with extended family and friends.

This small wooden box contained a very special gift.
This small wooden box contained a very special gift.

On a recent trips overseas, a friend shared a remarkable gift he had been given some time earlier. From a shelf he shared a small wooden box, seven inches long, and about two inches high by two inches deep. It was just a small, unassuming wooden box, held together with small brass nails.

Opening the box and looking inside, there’s nothing special. Yellow and red rocks, or so it seemed. A reddish tree resin and a yellow tree resin. Some golden coins, also. But, nothing of great importance.

Yet, that box contains gifts that were given over two thousand years ago — yellow frankincense, reddish-brown myrrh and gold.

Matthews 2:11 (NIV)Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

The Father keeps trying to teach us it’s the small box on the shelf which contains the greatest gift of all. We can all pray, Dear God, your gift to us is the greatest gift. Help us to remember that the smallest gift can be the greatest gift. Amen.

See you next Sunday
