Listen to God’s voice

Recently a coaching student and I were driving looking for a comparable sale. We both used our individual GPS navigation devices to guide us as we drove to find this house. After entering the destination on the screen, a voice called which road to follow, as well as when and where to make each turn. As we left the proper route, quite accidentally, the voice would say, “Recalculating.” Then it would tell us how to get back on the correct path.

In 2 Timothy 3:16, the scripture describes the Bible as a spiritual navigation system for our journey through life. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” Teaching tells us which road to travel; rebuking tells us when we are off the road; correction tells us how to get back on; training in righteousness tells us how to stay on God’s road.

The mistakes and choices that detour us from the Lord are not to be taken lightly. But failure is seldom fatal and few decisions are final. The moment we go off on our own, the Holy Spirit is “recalculating” and urging us to return to our Father’s way.

If or when we drift off course, there’s no better time than that moment to heed God’s voice and return to His road. Looking for a comparable sale to do a deal is a far second to being on God’s path for our lives.

To stay on course, trust the compass of God’s Word.

See you next Sunday,
