Trust in the Lord!!

During the summer of 1999 I gave my 15 year old son an assignment. He was to read one chapter of Proverbs everyday following the calendar. At the time no words could really express my motivation. However, at first my son was faithful, but it only took a few days to get off track.

Trust in the Lord - Mark Jackson[MJ]

As an encouragement to be more diligent in his daily reading, I asked my son to start with the first day he missed, read the chapter and then write a brief summary for each. It is summer, school is out, the lake is calling my sons name. My dad is having me read and write scripture?

God gave Solomon these words; Pro. 3:1-4 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Hear me, I didn’t know why I gave my son this assignment, it only could have come from the Lord. It was trusting in Him and not my self which lead me to task my young man. Years later as an adult my son has shared he still remembers the assignment. He has shared the scripture from memory and knows its meaning. He is now teaching his two sons to trust in the Lord with all their heart.

Share with me an example of how you trust in the Lord and lean not to your own understanding.

See you next Sunday,

MJ
