Who needs boundaries

There is a saying, when we look at all the opportunities or challenges which face us, each is a result of our own choices. Or better yet, when we get in a pickle and want to know why something is happening to us, rather than pointing the finger at others (maybe not you, I know I have), we need to ask, how did my actions contribute to this mess.

God provides a fence with His word to keep us safely in bounds.

I mean really, over the years, have we meet someone whose life was all messed up because he or she kept God’s commands? However, today when personal freedom is celebrated as a birth right, talk of molding our lifestyles to God’s ways is typically seen as an infringement. And those who speak out in favor of God’s boundaries are ruled out of bounds. But in peoples desire to run free, we can’t help but notice that our globe is increasingly marked with a empty sense of meaninglessness and at times great despair. Need I mention Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Connecticut Dec. 2012

As God’s people, we should have a different view of boundaries. Like David, we must realize that a blessed life comes from rejoicing in the law of the Lord Ps. 1:2, not in living like those who “walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take”. We should recognize that God’s boundaries are not meant to take the joy out of life. Rather, they are divine fences placed with God’s wisdom to help us avoid the trouble of reckless living.

Next time you are tempted to turn a back on God’s boundaries, remember His loving purpose in putting up those beautiful fences. Choose to bless God for the boundaries and for the way they bless and protect you.

God’s fences keep us within the bounds of His blessings.

See you next Sunday.
