Being Focused

Lord knows I love playing golf! However, over time I have watched a bunch of golf videos. Heck, they even have instructors from around the globe on YouTube. On one instructional video, I was shocked at what I saw. The teacher went through a swing lesson which had at least 5 or more steps and an equal number of sub-points under each step. TMI, too much information!

In time I have become a fairly good golfer. Equally over the years I have learned this, the more thoughts you have in your head as you swing, the less likely you are to be successful. The golf swing must be a simple thought process focusing on what matters most, making good solid contact with the ball. This is mostly accomplished through feel. The teacher I mentioned above’s numerous points only get in the way.

So I say, golf as in life, we should focus on what really matters.

Paul in his letter to the Philippians, states how this point of focus relates to us. Rather than being overloading with many thoughts, he wanted to focus on what really mattered. Paul wrote, “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward”.

“But one thing I do.” In a world of distractions, it’s vital for the child of God to stay focused, and there is no better point of focus in the universe than our Lord. It is God which should matter most to us.

Please share how you might be distracted limiting your focus on God. Your gracious share could touch another. Plus, I will write you back.

See you next Sunday,

MJ
