Delight in the Lord

In service today the pastor as part the sermon shared the scripture Psalm 37:4. Explaining the pastor opened our eyes to the fullness of the context. So enthralled I took a moment to read on beyond just verse 4. I’ve shared four verses here.

Ps 37:4-8 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this. He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret, it leads only to evil.

How do we as the scripture says delight ourselves in the Lord? While it certainly is challenging, by doing what pleases God and putting the Lord’s law in our hearts. Then, as we are immersed in the love of God, the Lord gives us the desires of our heart.

One written put it this way: “God has not promised to gratify all the appetites of the body and the humors of the fancy, but to grant all the desires of the heart, all the cravings of the renewed sanctified soul. What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and live to God, to please him and to be pleased in him.”

Just imagine what our desires would be and how God would meet them if we spent more time on the opening of Psalm 37:4 than the last latter. And in living out the complete expression of verse four, five through eight can help but follow.

Share how you take time to delight in the Lord and the resulting fruit. I will write you back.

See you next Sunday,
