Listen to your spouse

One evening as my wife and I pulled up to a family member’s house, there was a nice Ford F150 parked in the driveway. Looking, we both said, “That is a nice truck”. As my wife went in for a visit, I stayed outside to inquire about this truck. After a few minutes of asking questions and kicking tires, I was hooked. My days of driving sedans and wagons were done. I am getting truck, something my wife had encouraged for years, but I knew wasn’t for me.

"Baby, we are getting a truck"!

Going inside the house all excited and finding my wife, I said, “Baby we are getting a truck”. Now you have to understand, there have been several occasions in my married life where my bride has shared a profound thought or idea. Typically, a few months or even years later when I speak to someone else, it is then I come back and announce the very idea she long since has put on the table. Not surprised, she graciously asked how I came to this conclusion about the truck. Still excited I explained all the features, benefits and sound logic behind truck ownership I had discovered in only a few minutes discussion outside. We both laughed as the realization hit, I had done it again; ignored my wife’s brilliance, until I could see the signs for myself.

All throughout biblical history, God has provided a wealth of “signs” to show people the way to live, but they’ve kept going their own way. When God finally sent His Son as a sign Luke 11:30, the religious leaders paid little attention to God’s warnings. Life for religious leaders was quite good. These leaders were esteemed and admired. They absolutely did not appreciate being told they were short sighted.

We all can be this way at times. When life is going well, we tend to ignore warnings which show we need to turn around and change from our own way. It’s important to remember we may be wrong even though life is good.

God gives us warnings to prevent what comes from failing to listen. However, if we happen to ignore and fall, repentance will cleanse us from within. Remember, God sends warnings to protect us, not to punish us.

Share how you may have taken the wide path of destruction, instead of the narrow to life. Your share could help someone else. Plus, I will write you back.

See you next Sunday,

MJ
